Day One - Monday

Here it is. Day one. I'm amped to start working out again. I ended up going into work for a little while and then going straight to the gym from there. It's a little frustrating to start with such light weights, but I know I have to start slow or risk injury. Today was back and bicep day. One of my goals is to gain some badly needed muscle in my biceps!! My work out went great. It was just like riding a bicycle. And I forgot just how much I adore low cable rows!!
I also decided during my muscle building journey, I'd enlist the help of some people that have qualities about their bodies that I admire. Ask the questions. Get the feedback. Integrate fresh ideas into my regimen, etc.
Okay, so my first call was to my friend Cammie, who has a solid, strong physique. Although I didn't know anything about her athletic background, you just know by looking at her, she works out or has in the past. After inquiring to her fitness (Heck yeah she works out!!), I was blown away at the amount of sets she told me I'd have to crack out to grow my pathetic traps and biceps. 10-15 sets!?! Oh, you mean reps? Uhh NO. SETS. And you start lighter and crank out 20-25 and then toward the end, get very heavy and do just a few reps. Ohhh woe is me. It looks like my 4 sets of between 8-15 reps just ain't gonna cut it for growth.
And to add insult, she advised me to load up on the protein (no problem)...but how? I already eat chicken and tuna.... oh no......don't say it.....there it was hanging in the air like a stale fart.....
Eggs. I think eggs are pretty repulsive and don't like to eat them unless they are being used as the dip to fry up my french toast. Or mixed with lots of mayo and spread on wheat with some pepper.
"I used to eat a dozen eggs a day, plus 3 chicken breasts and 2 cans of tuna..." Cammie proclaimed proudly. Insert Cool Hand Luke reference here.
Oh crap. Okay. As I make out my grocery list, eggs go right up to the top. I'm gonna start out with 3 hardboiled for breakfast and some cottage cheese. Boy, I can hardly wait!!
And I'm just getting started!!

P.S. If anyone is looking for an AWESOME Dog Trainer/Walker near the Long Beach, CA area, please go to www.campcammie.net or call (562)833-3476. (SHAMELESS PLUG, huh Cam?!)

Pre D-Day

Today is the day. Actually it's tomorrow that WILL BE the day. I have decided to commit to building the body that I've always wanted and, for a while, had. I've heard it just gets harder and harder the older you get and I'm at the point where, at 35 years old, I don't want it to get worse.
I'm not a stranger to the gym, the weight room (Hey!! Where are all the other chicks?!), the clean eating, the body comp testing, the protein shakes, the sore muscles..everything that goes along with it. And as I let myself get farther and farther away from all of that, and my pants get tighter and tighter, I remember those days of feeling great after the workouts and having more of a calmness to my being. I want to own that feeling again.
Not that I've been totally lazy and couching. I've been running and half-assed training for an upcoming marathon which I've been told will probably kill me. My brain says "No Way" but my body is giving me the "Not so sure". Uggg.
So here I am committing myself to getting back to lifting and building a strong and lean body and recording my progress for everyone to see. Tomorrow being Monday is a perfect time to start. Mondays suck anyway.
Here I go!!!
